On 7/15/07, our great trip to Lake George, NY, began. This particularly long and image-heavy page covers the whole trip.

While we were packing, Cara took a short trip to PJ's house and the two toddlers ended up curled together in his fire truck bed. Here is Em's candid photo:

Then it was off to New York! After spending some time in the hotel pool, we wandered into town and found a special place called Rompa Room, which afforded us some photo opportunities. Here, Cara shows off one of her recently-developed talents:

I snapped the below photo of the mighty steamship, Minne-Ha-Ha, while Evie was busy changing Cara's dirty diaper. We would take a ride on the Minne the next day; Cara was ambivalent about it.

On Lake George:

Cara liked the beach. She likes sand very much.

We found a sand rampart that some earlier visitors to the beach had built. Cara carefully dusted off a section before sitting down on it--very cleanly.

The second day of our trip, 7/16, we got up early and got right back down to the beach! This time we were armed with our bucket and shovels, and we made castles.

Cara helped me to build what I called a "pond." Here she demonstrates her two-shovel technique.

Up, up, up...

Happy Daddy with his little girl.

After the beach and a boat ride, it was right back on land for Cara's first mini-golf game! Here she is working on her stance.

Cara discovers the very cool guitar hole.

I am visible off to the left, helping to extricate Cara's ball.

Cara managed to get her ball stuck behind the sentry's right leg.

In the evening, we revisited the wonderful Rompa Room, where a much more confident Cara discovered the joy of leaping head first into the ball pit.

7/17/07 proved to be the last day of our Lake George trip. Our first visit was to Fort William Henry. In the gift shop, Cara discovered her friend the bison, whom she identified as a "yak."

Inside the fort, Cara helps string her bead necklace.

Our last stop in New York was the Natural Stone Bridge and Caves. Here Cara is sifting through soil to find special rocks!

Cara doesn't seem to have found her sweet tooth, and we have the photo to prove it. Here she is in the playground in the parking lot of Natural Stone Bridge, singularly unimpressed with a brownie and trying to give it back to me.

Seeing the sights:

It takes Cara many seconds to carefully walk down our stairs at home, but out on the trail she wanted to jump and climb and run--she had no fear. Mommy and Daddy had more than enough fear for her.

"More photos? Bah!"

We'll look back and say that this is when Cara's passion for archaeology was kindled.

After uncovering the dinosaur, we fed some trout and then left New York for New Jersey--and home!

The next page shows photos from our Florida trip of a few days later.
