It'll be a short entry today, because I'm tired!

When I got home today, Cara and her grandpa were playing the piano. Cara looked so cute and enthusiastic, busily whacking the keys with both hands! She makes the keyboard do all sorts of things, although I'm not sure that she's aware of much of it. She was quite happy, anyway.

Today was Steve's birthday, so his parents came up in the afternoon and brought dinner, dessert, and presents. They really made today special and made a tough week a lot nicer. Janet and I tried to make Cara's hand prints and footprints in plaster of Paris, but it didn't work. She just kind of smushed her little digits into the stuff and made a mess. We'll try again when she's older and it'll still be cute.

Cara was good in her saucer and good on her tummy and in her high chair. Her grandparents brought balloons, which were a new experience for Cara. She looked at them a lot and had fun hitting them. Shelby enjoyed chewing on the ends of the ribbons, so they were multipurpose toys.

Cara's daddy got a new baby Einstein DVD, and Cara watched it. It's about the seasons and Monet, and there are plenty of puppets. Everyone seemed to like it, for the most part. I fed Cara applesauce today for the first time. I tried it first in her high chair, but she was already upset so it did little good. Later I tried it on the couch. When the first spoonful went in, she got a look of utter confusion on her face. I wasn't sure she enjoyed it, but apparently she decided it was pretty good, because, for the first time, she finished the whole bowl! It wasn't a big bowl or anything, but it was probably the most she's ever eaten. I'm discovering the the trick is to get the spoon in and out fast, because she would like to jam it in as hard as she can.

She went to bed early again, and last night she got up as soon as I went to bed, around quarter to ten. We'll see whether we get a repeat performance.

Steve here. Baby was not thrilled about having to go to sleep, even though she was clearly tired, but Evie got her down in pretty good time last night. Then Cara woke up at around 5:10 in the morning, and it quickly became apparent after a feeding that she was not about to go back to sleep. So Ev and I traded places watching the baby and taking showers. When George arrived, I had baby on my leg and we were looking at the computer. I told him when baby had been fed and sped off to work.

Having worked so many long hours the rest of this week (coming home so late in the evening that I only had one or two hours to spend with the baby), I had enough time built up to leave very early today. I ended up making it out the door at around 12:45, and absolutely flew down the Parkway--the best drive home on a Friday that I've had in weeks! As I turned the corner into our development, there was George strolling with the baby. We met at the house and baby was asleep in her stroller, but she very quickly woke up. I spent time trying to keep her amused while doing things for myself. She played with the toys on her bouncer while I ate lunch, then she had some laughs on the bed while I changed into non-work clothes. Cara loves it when I kiss the bottoms of her feet--her baby legs are very fun to play with, something we both enjoy.

One of the things I did while baby was in the bouncer was set up an appointment to have someone at our nearby Apple Store look at my computer. It is doing bad things on start-up, which may be related to some kind of hardware problem. Anyway, the upshot is that we may have to hold journal entries for a while--I have no idea how long this will take to fix.

Meanwhile, baby got a bottle from me. At first she did not seem interested, but then I heated it up a second time and she had a few ounces. Then we went up to baby's room and we played with some balloons that I got last night for my little birthday party (as mentioned in the previous entry). Then mommy got home! Cara had some nice tummy time and some time in her exersaucer. Now I am getting this journal out of the way so we can turn the computer off in preparation for its journey. Hopefully, new entries will follow soon!
